Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC)

A Good Idea

Description

The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) is a multi-sector obesity prevention program that has been nationally recognized as an outstanding model. CLOCC projects use a variety of strategies to prevent obesity. Healthy lifestyle messages for children and families are supported with trainings and materials through the program's 5-4-3-2-1 Go! initiative. A joint effort with the Chicago Department of Public Health, Healthy Places, focuses on policy, systems, and environmental change in the city. And through the Healthy Teachers Network, teachers across Chicago are learning how to promote healthy eating and physical activity in the classroom.

Goal / Mission

CLOCC's mission is to confront the childhood obesity epidemic by promoting healthy and active lifestyles for children throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.

The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children brings together researchers, public health advocates and practitioners, and the children, families, and communities of Chicagoland to prevent childhood obesity.

The work of CLOCC fosters and facilitates connections between childhood obesity prevention researchers, public health advocates and practitioners, and the children, families, and communities of Chicagoland. The consortium represents over 1,200 organizations and is housed at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
